Laurie Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 I wonder if someone can help us...We have a 2002 (52) galaxy tdi Ghia and its smoking from the auxilary /booster heater.I changed the glow plug perhaps last year.... however this was just as a matter of course as my friend had just done his and as it was an easy job he suggested we do mine. My heater is now smoking to the degree the wife has refused to drive it,I pulled up in it earlier and honestly couldnt see out of the car.Our childminder came rushing out thinking my car was on fire I have a warranty on it with warranty direct but they dont think it will be covered (thieves :-( ! ) as its an auxilary item. Can anyone offer any advice as to what we can do,does it need a new heater or plugging in for a diagnosis? Thanks,Alex Quote
gregers Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 dunno why you cant claim,as it is to do with the coolant/heating system of the car?give them a bell but dont tell them you changed the plug yourself last year, you dont want them saying youve caused the problem :P Quote

Does it sound fixable or will it need a new unit? If it requires a new unit how much am I likely to have to pay? Thanks again,Alex Quote
big_kev Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Phone them up again and tell them there is a problem with a part of cooling system. Ask if all the cooling system is covered. Might pay to pull the fuse in the meantime to stop the smoking.......keep the wife happy. Quote

dicko Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I had the same problem with a 55 plate 1.9tdi. the dealers replaced the whole heater unit under warranty (about Quote
tim-spam Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 It's not an auxiliary heater, it's a booster heater. Nothing auxiliary about it - it is an integral part of the vehicle's cooling / heating system. Quote
